Torissong is a Japanese fusion restaurant in Carlton. It has a spacey classy but simple venue, perfect for large groups and families. The first time, I saw Torissong is went I visit the restaurant next door. It's no secret that I love Japanese food, any new Japanese restaurant in town, intrigues me. Got a double date coming up so with no hesitation, I went in and booked us a table.

Started straight away with; Yakitori ($22) - 5 kinds from the their selection. There's kawa (skin), tsukune (meat ball) and more. Everything were pretty well cooked and seasoned. It goes well with my yuzu tea as well as Hibiki whisky that my husband ordered.

Special of The day: Tuna with Nori and Sashimi Hokkaido Scallop - cucumber, seaweed pickle, yuzu kosho, apple juice ($15). Love the special of the day so much, fresh refreshing tuna with crunchy fried nori, what's not to like? Especially in summer. The next dish is just as amazing, fresh high quality scallop. Lightly seasoned, perfect to highlight the scallop it self. The yuzu flavour and apple, matched nicely and added even more refreshing, slightly sweet flavour to the dish.

Chicken-Katsu Sando - Japanese-style sandwich, deep fried panko crumbed chicken breast, cos lettuce, wasabi mayo ($14) and Torissong Gyoza - pork, cabbage, garlic chives, shiitake mushrooms ($12). I ordered the gyoza for my kid and he likes it, that's always a good news to a parents. One of the highest praise a parent could give. There are four of us that day; we are all in unison, in how good is the sandwich. Even though it's breast, it's not dried at all and the wasabi mayo, it's not too strong and balanced the dish really well.

Teriyaki Lamb Ribs - glazed teriyaki sauce, water cress, French mustard ($16) and Grilled Ox Tounge - Queenslander Ox tounge, green salad, shichimi ($22). My husband wanted the lamb, it was tender, strongly marinated, not strong in odour, normally found in lamb which is always a good thing for me. I do think, the portions of the ox tounge could be a lil bigger but besides that I have no complain.

House Made Lavender Ice Cream with Honeycomb ($5), Earl Grey Panna Cotta - honeycomb and pistachion meringue ($12) and Sake Poached Nashi Pear, tarte de moine cheese ($14). My friend is a fan of the lavender ice cream, just lightly infused but creamy as ever. The panna cotta is rich and creamy but I want it to have a lil bit more jiggly texture. Ended with a strongly infused sake pear, I would like the pear to be a lil bit more tender but the drama with the cheese, sold me. They come in with a small round cheese with it's round grater and grated it in front of us. It looked so fun and taste nice too of course.
