MoVida Bar de Tapas opened in Hosier Lane (2003), quickly swept Melbournians heart.Frank Camorra is Executive Chef and co-owner of the MoVida group of restaurants born in Barcelona but grew up in Geelong. Amazingly he was an architect before jumping to the food industry, then finally returning to Spain and discover his culinary roots. Returning to Australia with a goal of opening a true Spanish bar and restaurant but was accessible to the modern Australian dining culture, he opened MoVida Bar de Tapas y Vinos in the 1970s Carron Tavern on the edge of Melbourne’s CBD (2002). Then finally to it's current hype place, claiming it's fame. Now they have 6 restaurants under their belt; MoVida Next Door, MoVida Aqui, Bar Pulpo, Bar Tini and one in Bali, Indonesia.

My in law is in town so I get to go out for a nice date with my hubby. We wanted something quick but nice and we haven't been to MoVida in a while. So we booked in and get a nice table by the window, started our meal straight away with a range of tapas from my favourite beef tartare with refreshing cactus, tostada, quail egg with brioche and pate with fig and paella with fish. The beginning is the best part of our meal, everything was nicely cooked, so delicious and reminded me straight away why I love MoVida so much.





The main we duck and beef, the duck comes from their regular menu and their beef comes from the special of the day. We originally just wanted to order the duck but swayed by the staff to order one more, that we regret. The meat was tough and a bit flavourless, just so disappointed. But the duck was delicious, crispy skin with tender inside with perfectly partnered creamy base that I love so much.


Ended with their chocolate churros. Their hospitality is a bit up and down, they did say the meal is going to be one to one and half hour then we have to leave the table. But we got hold up by their meat and they are the one who being rude to us which is doesn't make sense. To be fair, it's just one staff that do that, the rest was fine. These days hospitality matters so much cause it's one of the big aspect that brings people back all the time.
