Dragon Hot Pot is arguably the most popular malatang in Melbourne right now, clearly shown with the amount of people lining up in front of their restaurant every day. They have numerous branch opened in just a short time. Started with Russell Street and Elizabeth Street, now also available in Swanston St, QV even in the suburbs; Glen Waverly, Box Hill, Clayton and I already heard some rumour about new store in the West.

Dragon Hot Pot is a made to order restaurant opened late 2017, owned by Louis Kuo. Unique supermarket style set up where diner can choose from over 100 ingredients including  80 different kinds of meat as well as seafood, 12 different types of tofu, 9 different types of mushroom and 36 vegetables. After choosing all the ingredients, it's time to weight the bowl at the cashier then picking your broth.

Dragon Hot Pot has five base stocks with over 100 fresh ingredients to make it as bold as we taste them. The Signature Ma La Tang broth is available at all stores, where you can pick the level of spiciness you desire. The broth is made with wild herbs from Mount Emei, Sichuan, China and many more, created from century old recipes. They have other bases but not available at all stores; Ma La stir fry (dry hot pot), Pork Collagen Soup, Pickled Mustard and Hot & Sour Soup.

Now, they have brand new base and it's vegan. It will rolled out on all stores soon. Dragon Hot Pot created a fresh midly spicy broth complete with the signature Sichuan peppercorn. I went in to QV, to have the first taste. I normally pick mild on my signature malatang so I ordered the same way for my vegan broth. My first taste was it's fresh and much lighter than the signature mala but remain depht in flavour. I would opted for one level higher in term of spiciness for extra kick. But this is one of the most delicious vegan soup I have ever tasted.

Diners in Dragon Hot Pot can customise their delicious meal according to their taste, mood and pocket. Also customers can be daring cause they served pig’s kidney, duck blood, frog’s legs and many more ingredients that's not easy to find in Melbourne. They also served additional dipping sauces and plenty of drinks choices to accompany your meal.
