Maha just turned 10 years in 2018, they celebrated it with a luxurious renovation on their venue. From the moment you enter Maha, dim lighting with black wall, creme cushions, open kitchen and at one end, private dining room with wall art. Everything screams modern, chic and luxurious. Maha has earned One Chef Hat annually since 2009. Lead by Shane Delia, the star of SBS cooking show Spice Journey and also known for various appearances on Masterchef.

In 2019, Maha just launched brand new lunch menu. The lunch menu available in 2 ($40pp), 4 ($60) and 6 course degustation ($80). If you have small stomach or very particular on what you want, don't worry, they also have ala carte menu. Shane was not available to meet us that day so he sent in his head chef to greet us instead.

It was a cold Saturday morning and we can't wait for lunch! But first thing first, welcome cocktail; Anise Martini - gin, arak, cucumber, star anise, mint lime and Pomegranated Sour - pama pomegranate liqueur, vanilla vodka, lemon, egg white, cherries. Besides this, we were also served various wines during the meal. Maha is generous indeed.

First: Eggplant filled buns, persian ‘xo’, Pickled carrots, st david’s yogurt, turmeric & shallot oil, House-made wagyu basturma, whipped yogurt, charred eggplant and chives, Hummus, sesame & preserved lemon butter, flatbread and Chemen cured kingfish, urfa biber, preserved lemon, chives.

Second: Pearl couscous, harissa, calamari, scallops, zucchini and Toasted bread crumbed eggplant, tahini, pomegranate jewels, pekmez. I would like more seafood on the cous cous just because they are fresh and delicious, the whole thing just light yet rich with spices. I always thought Middle Eastern cuisine have the best eggplant, they can extract all the goodness flavour in eggplants and transformed it into many dishes.

Third: Beef shish kebab, grilled corn pitta, roasted peppers, green harissa, Charred baby corn, smoked almonds, saffron, salted ricotta,  Aged rice, turkish capsiscum, parsley and Victorian hinterlands mixed leaf salad, buttermilk, orange blossom dressings.

Fourth: Olive oil, spiced syrup soaked semolina cake, pear, saffron jam, chickpea ice cream. It's simply delicious, the cake was light, moist and nicely sweet with thick saffron jam and who know's that I would love chickpea ice cream? That's an innovation alright!

By the time it ends, everybody were so full and basically we declare that we are not going to have dinner that day. Thank you Maha! The food is so delicious, rich with spices but on some dishes it's a bit too greasy. My favourite is their kingfish, it's different than any other kingfish I have tasted. Heavily spiced, making the fish almost taste like meat but it's light. Their hummus and kebab follows not far after.

The services also amazing, so attentive and quick with any request. We were also given goodie bag, their very own bread flour which I'm so excited to try, because their breads are amazing. I score Maha 4.5 but for Zomato purposes, it's closer to a 5 than 4.

That day, my companion were amazing. We share so much laughter and stories despite most of us just met.
