Shira Nui

Shira Nui is a well known and popular Japanese sushi restaurant subsiding on Springvale Rd. It first opened in 2003, Chef Hiro Ishikura has been in charge of the kitchen till now. They are also known for 'Omakase' dining which means "l'll leave it up to you" basically it's up to the chef. The price of omakase starts at $90 pp includes two piece servings of nine types of nigiri sushi.

It's not a big secret that I love Japanese food especially sushi and sashimi and this is not the first time I dine in at Shira Nui. The restaurant it self has a humble minimalistic yet traditional exterior. Besides Omakase, they also served ala carte and this time my family opted for ala carte.

Sushi and Sashimi Moriwase ($60). Stunning plate of beautifully presented sushi and sashimi, the quality was fresh and pretty enjoyable but somehow it's not outstanding like I remembered it before. Shira Nui used to be the best sushi in South East area.

We ordered two types of cooked sushi; Unagi Hako Sushi ($28/8pcs) and Pan Fried Salmon Nigiri ($35/6pcs). Both of this sushi was delicious that we ordered second's straight away, all of my family loves it. The unagi was perfectly cooked and sweet, the salmon was lightly pan friend and remain succulent.

My mother in law wants something else than sushi so we ordered Gyoza ($10), Miso Grill sea perch ($26), Tempura Mori ($30), Chawan Mushi ($15) and Yose Nabe - Japanese hotpot with udon ($35). The chawan mushi was beyond smooth and warm, nabe was delicious, sadly the tempura was just average.

After all that we ended the dinner with Green Tea Creme Brรปlรฉe ($14) and Matcha Pudding ($14). The vanilla ice cream was cut in cube which was delicious and we also like both of our desserts.

The service was pretty quick even though the restaurant was really busy, reservation is always recommended to dine in at Shira Nui. To be honest, I don't think Shiranui is the best sushi in town anymore, I think towards the year the quality has drop and I do think with the price we could get better quality with the same portions else where.
