Mjolner is a bar and restaurant where a perfect modern elegance and Vikings history mash together into a two level contemporary Scandinavian design. It has a private dining room on the first floor and speakseasy bar on the basement. Mjolner is created in Thor's image and thsi quote stated on their websites, begin our viking journey; "May Odin give you knowledge on your path. May Thor grant you strength & courage on your way. I was so excited to come in to Mjolner, I love theme restaurant and I never been to a modern Viking casual dining before. New experience always elevated my mood. Arriving at the restaurant, I was so amazed by the interior. Warm colours, sophisticated with strong viking flairs. In love with it by the first sight, there's fur, giant curtain with one eyed Odin, giant viking horn and the staff wearing a host wearing a coarse cotton smock, a leather apron and a dagger at his hip.

We started with a lil bit of alcohol shot from a mini viking shot glass, given complimentary to begin our journey. It has honey in it and only contain a lil bit alcohol. Then followed by choosing our own weapon to vanquish our meal. Starters arrived! Roast Bone Marrow - meat powder, mustard leaf ($22). I would come for this dish, again and again. Yes, the melt in your mouth bone marrow is that delicious. After we finished the whole thing, the staff came in and ask whether we want to do shots of whisky with the bone. How cool is that???

Port Phillip Scallops - umami butter, pickled sea greens ($26). The umami butter in the scallops dish, is indeed an umami bomb, clearly the hero of the dish and matched up nicely with the perfectly cooked scallops, but the pickled sea green makes the dish an unusual scallop dish, in a good way.

Beast: O’Connor’s pasture fed short rib, white radish, chimichurri ($46). Tender short rib, very well treated meat. I would like a lil bit more complexity and stronger flavours accompanying the meat. The best part is we can eat it with our weapon of choice (the knife we pick at the beginning of the meal).

When I think, Mjolner has nailed the whole drama part of the meal, the Bombe Alaska arrived. At first the heated up the alcohol with a blow torch in front of us, then finally pour the alcohol on top of the meringue. The flame burn brighter and much longer than most bombe alaska I ever seen. They tasted delicious too.
