G2 (Invited)

G2 is a two storey Korean restaurant located in the strategic and busy Elizabeth Street, 2 minutes walk from Melbourne Central station. They are famous for Korean BBQ as well as their cheap Korean lunch bento box with generous rice and meat.

I have been to G2 many times, mainly on lunch time. My friends love their lunch menu, for it's flavour, generosity and spacious level two space. At night, the often open their large window upstair so the natural light enters the room and the smoke could go out and not stay in the room for too long. Ryan the owner, noticed me straight away when I enter the room and give me table upstair with the best natural lighting. Thumbs up for him. First thing first, order some rice wine. If you have not try it before, you should. Sweet and creamy. Yum!

We started with Yuk-Hwae - fresh raw beef tenderloin on sweet soy sauce ($15), Kimchi Pancake ($14),  Corn Cheese and Soon do bu. Yuk-hwae is has the similar texture with tartar but it has richer flavour, as it's marinated with heavier deeper sauce. It's enjoyable on it's own but perfect to share due to it's rich flavour. The star of the appetisers is the kimchi pancake, mild kimchi flavour mixing with the egg and fluffy texture. Yum! Soon do bu also has that prominent flavour with generous filling and not too fishy. Sadly, the corn cheese was way too watery and needed much more cheese.

Right to the main meal; Wagyu beef cube roll grade 5+ ($46), Ox Tounge ($19) and Pork Belly ($17). The ox tongue was a touch too thick for me but still enjoyable and the pork belly was rendered nicely but the main star of course the wagyu. Rich and fatty, I can eat this just with plain rice and I will be happy.

Ended with an army of Green Tea Ice Cream, Tiramisu Cream, Honey Vanilla Panna Cotta and Sticky Date Pudding. Everything was good, it's hard to choose when you are presented with this many dessert. My husband's fave was the warm moist sticky date but mine was the super creamy tiramisu. Their panna cotta is simple but jiggly and light, green tea ice cream? Just perfect for simple person like my brother.
