Lolo & Wren (Revisited-Invited)

Lolo and Wren located in Brunswick East. This cafe was quite reachable with tram and it’s quite easy to find. This is not the first time or even second for me to Lolo & Wren so I'm pretty familiar with the cafe for years now.

It was a gloomy day and it was good to start with house blend cappuccino and The Smork (rich Mork specialty hot chocolate covered in mini scorched marshmallows - $6). We recommend to mix the chocolate and marshmallows first rather than straightly drinking it, so that the sweetness taste will be well balanced.

We waited quite a long time to have our food to be served; maybe it was because the staffs were not enough and there are just two fronts of house. The good thing was they have open kitchen that we can watch them cooking.

The Pig Boss – Chinese spiced slow cooked Golden Plains pork shoulder, Sichuan pork crackling, crunchy peanuts, citrus slaw, sesame choy sum, Asian herbs and sriracha mayo served in a soft white roll ($17.5). This dish was recommend by the manager and it tasted similar with Vietnamese bahn mi with a generous filling of the pork shoulder and soft bread.

Crispy croque monsieur – shaved leg ham, swiss cheese, cheese & chive cream, coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs and served with homemade tomato relish ($18). It looked so tempting with the melted cheese when it served. The bread was crunchy and it’s well balance. The homemade tomato relish was good and sweet. Overall, it’s a delicious dish!

Last but not least, we had candy apple pancakes – walnut praline, rhubarb and blueberry compote, fresh mint, vanilla mascarpone and pure Canadian maple syrup ($18.5). The pancakes were fluffy and light. I love the caramelize walnut praline that gave the crunchy and sweetness to the dish. The taste was really balance and not to sweet. This dish was my highlight of the day!
