La Baia Cucina is sitting right on Beaconsfield Parade, just beside South Melbourne Beach. Perfect view of the sunset from their ground level sittings. They also have basement area for another set of sittings. Serving dinner Monday to Thursday and both lunch as well as dinner on Friday-Sunday.

It was a long day for us, my kid wasn't behaving well. Maybe because he's on his wonder weeks leaps or teething or God know's why? If you have a kid, you must understand how I'm feeling. Yes, this is one of those days that everything just fall apart. Then I have La Baia Cucina for dinner, super exhausted but hungry and wanting to have something nice.

We ordered something fast for the baby first; Polpette di Maiale-al sugo w/ pane della casa ($14). This was delicious, so juicy and tender. The sauce is very generous and partnered with bread to dip into the last drip of the sauces on the plate.

Linguine alle Vongole / Campania-w/ onion , garlic, saffron in herbs and white wine broth ($28). Vongole is my favourite kind of pasta and it used to be hard to find it in Melbourne but these past view years, Melbourne has spread it wings in terms of culinary and it evolves faster than what I expected. This vongole is no regular vongole, it has saffron in it turning the pasta to yellowish hue and I must say it works out so well. The clam open just as nicely braised in the white wine broth, fresh, light and delicious.

Grilled Barramundi w/Italian potatoes, broccolini, grilled yabbies' cooked in confit lemon butter sauce ($36). Beautifully cooked piece of fish, even though it takes a very long time to prepare. Subtle in flavour yet enough deliciousness inside. Love the grilled yabbies with a lil bit lemony flavour from the buttery sauce.

Soufflé - w/ hazelnut ice-cream ($14) and Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta w/ peach in vodka ($12). Decided on two dessert cause it's a stressful day, feeling like drowning my self in sugar. Super fluffy souffle and light like the air, just like what we want in souffle but I want more hazelnut flavour in it. Then the pannacotta arrived, I had pannacotta earlier today at Gradi and it wasn't that good. Sadly, this one also pretty dense and a touch too sweet even though I love the peach with a lil hint of vodka.

The food was great, the place is romantic as well as kid friendly and they are open for big family dinner as well. My only objection is the cooking time, the table besides us also complain about the same thing. But big plus is the food is a bit different than the other Italian restaurant.
