Basco (Invited)

Basco is a spacious restaurant bar located in Brunswick. They serve Asian-Mexican fusion food, and it was really interesting to see the tacos and mains they come up with! They were booked to the hour on the Saturday I was there, so I'd recommend making a reservation in advance!

I ordered the Feed Me Banquet which was a pretty good deal. I got the Snacky Chan which had housemade tortilla chips with a side of guac and salsa. I really enjoyed the salsa because it was infused with kaffir lime. Highly addictive! The Viet Corn appetiser was also pretty good with the nuoc cham sauce and shallots. The corn was sweet.

In the 'Banquet', I also got the Bangkok Wings which were good to share. The wings were coated in a sriracha caramel sauce. The wings were cooked well, but I just thought the caramel sauce was a tad too sweet.

Next up was the Barry White Taco that came with spice-coated, deep fried baramundi, slaw, guac and jalapeno-tequila mayo.  I just wanted a little more of the mayo, but other than that, I really enjoyed the combination of fresh flavours in the taco!

We also ordered a few extra things on the side. We tried the Foshan Pork which came with a pickled fennel, carrot and apple salad. The pork was a little hard and we unfortunately did not really enjoy the sweetness of the mandarin, soy honey ginger sauce. I'm just not a big fan of overly citrusy flavours in dishes like these.

The Miso Krabi was definitely my favourite dish of the night. It came with crisply fried tempura soft shell crab and 2 choices of dipping sauce - sriracha ponzu aioli and miso ginger sauce. While my friends loved how the miso ginger sauce really brought the flavours of the crab, my favourite was the sriracha ponzu aioli. So tangy with just a hint of spiciness. Just delectable!
