Shanghai Street on Bourke (Invited)

Shanghai Street on Bourke is the sixth restaurant of Shanghai Street group, this time they went the classy and elegant route. Yes, Shanghai Street in Bourke still have their famous Xia Long Bao but they are entering the casual dining family with this restaurant. This new restaurant is perfect for casual party or dining with clients.

The location is very strategical, just on the main Bourke street. A couple minutes walk from H&M. Located on the second floor with spacious seatings, white table cloth and relax environment. Reservation is available and it has a nice view of Bourke St from it's window. Shirley, their marketing manager has a very good relation with me and invited me in to their opening but sadly, I was back home in Indonesia so we arrange a private invite instead.

All the menu has been prepared and arranged by the Shanghai Street on Bourke. We begin with three appetizers; Mushy Broadbean Spring Rolls, Spicy Chicken with Peanut & Coriander and Seafood San Choi Bao. It's the first time that I tried mushy broadbean as spring rolls filling, well it's surprisingly creamy and pretty good. The spicy chicken is served cold with creamy peanut butter sauce, nicely done for summer. My favourite is the san choi bao, comes in a generous portion of meat, love it.

Originally, we only going to have two main; Braised Pork Belly in Sweet Soy Sauce with Chinese Steamed Bread and King Prawn in Light Spicy Sauce but Shirley decided to visit us and got us another dish; Quail. Sadly, the pork belly needed to be a little bit more tender and stronger in sweet soy sauce cause I wanted that sweetness. The king prawn is served whole with the shell and very well seasoned but slightly over cooked. Surprisingly, the quail was the best. Nicely fried and seasoned. Very tasty.

We ended with Strawberry Cream Mochi with fresh fruit. This was my favourite out of all the dishes that night. Cutely presented, it's a nice way to put the strawberry inside the mochi. Thin mochi skin with abundant cream inside and fresh strawberry. What's not to love?
