Long Chim finally opened in Melbourne. The famous restaurant by David Thompson opened in the ever busy Crown Promenade. In 1980's David visit Thailand for holiday, gradually he fell in love with the cuisines. His experience opening Thai restaurant in Sydney, Perth, London, Bangkok and many other city, finally he opened Long Chim means come and taste. It has 3 branches in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth).

Ever since it was opened I wanted to try Long Chim then when I saw David Thompson on Masterchef it intrigues me even more. Then by chance I had an old friend coming all the way from Auckland so I went and book in for Sunday lunch. They gladly accomodate me with four other adults and my baby. The restaurant it self is spacious and consist of outdoor area, indoor area and second storey indoor area.

We started with some appetisers; Fish Cakes - cucumber relish ($24) and Dried Prawns Ginger Toasted Coconut - betel leaves ($18). We quiet enjoy the betel leave dish, it was packed full of flavour but the fish cake was quite sharp with spiciness even though the texture was perfect crisp outside and fluffy inside.

Then we move on to main; Pad Thai - prawns, peanuts, bean sprouts ($34), Chinese Broccoli - crunchy pork, oyster sauce ($32) and Soft Shell Crab - black pepper sauce . Everything was okay and spicy, we did not expect the level of spiciness.

We also added; Green Curry of Chicken ($34) and Dried Fried Snapper - three flavoured sauce ($40). We don't like the curry at all, it's muddy and taste weird, none of us come back for second serving but the fish was the highlight of our meal. Perfectly cooked and seasoned.

Everyone that knows me that I have to end meal with Desserts; Black Sticky Rice, Thai Tea Ice Cream and Thai Coffee Ice Cream. The thai coffee ice cream was bitter with strong coffee flavour but the Thai tea ice cream is nice with perfect sweetness. But what we like the most is the sticky rice, nice texture and coconut flavour mixed in with perfectly cooked black sticky rice.

At the end of our meal, one of the staff spill a glass of cold water to my mom's lap and blouse. The staff apologise and offer a hot drink for her. But that's it. I do think from the start to end, the service was lacking. We often forgotten since we sit at the back corner, the food take quiet some time to arrive and the staff seems in a rush also lack of friendliness. I expected more.
