Modern Eatery comes from Perth and yes, I have written about them before when I visited Perth. Never thought, there will come a day that they decided to open in Melbourne. It was so brave of them since Melbourne is the food capital of Australia.

I went in on a Saturday night, the venue has two level and the rest room is located on the second floor. Making it hard for people who have disability or old people like my grandma or people with baby and kids. The venue is young and modern, decorated with the ever trending neon lights.

Salmon Sashimi - seared miso new zealand king salmon, sweet potato fries, blackberry and baby tomato ($16) and Salmon Oshi - pressed salmon with signature aburi sauce and sweet soy ($16). The salmon oshi is one of their signature and not many sushi place sell pressed salmon sushi so that was unique and different. The salmon sashimi was so beautifully plated like a work of art.

Chasing Sunset GFO - egg omelette, cucumber with seared salmon, sweet potato
fries, spring onion and garlic mayo on top ($16), Kamikaze - deep fried prawn tempura, shredded crab sticks, sliced avocado with signature aburi sauce and masago on top ($13) and Musashi - hokkaido sea scallops, cucumber, kewpie mayo with aburi hiramasa kingfish and house made avocado sauce on top ($16). My favourite out of all is the musashi, the scallop simply fresh and match well with the fish. The overall flavour of all the roles were good.

Wagyu in Truflfe - seared wagyu beef, truffle salt, creamy garlic shimeji mushrooms,
lotus chips ($22). Sadly, this dish fall really flat. The seared wagyu was cold and chewy, I don't know whether it meant to serve that way and no truffle flavour was detected by any of us. We want more truffle please!

Kitty K’s Ramen Yasan - Kitty K’s special sesame and umami broth, wagyu beef and
seasonal vegetables ($16). My dad found the broth weird so does my grandma but to me and my husband they are pretty good. It's uniquely weird and different than others.

Matcha Pannacotta - yuzu creme, white chocolate crumb, citrus segments, sherbet, meringue ($14). This was our highlight of the meal. The pannacotta was wobbly, smooth and flavourful, we love the meringue, choco crumbs and sour citrus. Just simply a delicious dessert.

The price is well reasonable as well as the portion but the flavour it self does not blow my mind. Melbourne standard has grown so high that me, as a food bloggers have no choice of raising our standard and get pickier by the day.
