Firehouse (Invited)

A few minutes walk from Ringwood Station, The Firehouse is a charming cafe situated on an actual historic, actual-fire department station. The staff is lovely and the cafe has a very cozy-country cafe feel to it. I would probably be a regular if I lived nearby!

We first ordered our drinks. I got the jazzed up Iced Coffee that came with a vanilla donut and ice cream. Yum. The very definition of bittersweet. The Iced Chocolate was also great with actual chunks of cake at the top which was just crunchy and smooth at the same time.

On to the food. I first tried the Croque Madame which was pretty good. The bread was soft and for once, I didn’t mind the crust because the sauce had just made the toast so flavourful. I also got the Meaty Eggs which was essentially scotch eggs served with asparagus and parmesan custard. The tastes were alright; I am particualrly impressed how the chef maintained the runniness of the yolk in the centre! If any of you watched that particular masterchef episode where one contestant failed three times to make scotch eggs, you’ll get my amazement (haha).

The chef also brought out the Broken Sushi with Ahi tuna, sesame, nori, rice and ginger. Prettily plated, the tuna was fresh and the rice was perfectly cooked. Sure, it was a little difficult to eat, but the flavours were very refreshing indeed.
