Dear Abbey (Revisited-Invited)

Located literally in the front of an abbey down in Moonee Ponds, Dear Abbey really has a lovely charm to it. It's build on a church. Yes, I have been there before and fell in love with it straight away. Perfect for a unique brunch or to bring someone from out of town.

We tried a couple of things from their spring menu and it was just amazing. Definitely recommended, not only for the venue but also for the food. Paul one of the owner, often there at Dear Abbey and he make sure everything is well. Here's what we got!

First up, I tried their Eggs Bene-Duck (hats off to the pun here!). The poached eggs and peking duck came on top of a bed of toasted roti, sesame seeds and peking hollandaise sauce. I wasn't expecting much from the looks of it but my goodness did it blow my expectations. The duck doesn't smell 'gamey' and was so tenderly cooked. The roti was hands down the best roti I've had in a brunch dish because it was crisp and fluffy all at the same time. Overall, such an excellent combination of flavours!

The Soba Noodle Salad that I tried was excellent as well! Coming with tuna sashimi, wasabi seeds and a soy sauce dressing, it was the perfect light spring meal that makes you feel healthy. The tuna was fresh, the dressing had the right amount of tang.

The last one of them all was the Braised Pork Belly. The pork was perfectly cooked.
The sauce was just the perfect marriage between sweet and savoury, mains and dessert. Super sticky, sweet and just tingling with umami. Definitely the star of this dish!
