Light Years (Invited)

Light Years is a relatively new venue, just opened in July. From the same owners as the famous Journeyman and the previous hype Hammer & Tong. I was pretty surprise that Hammer & Tong close but so happy finally I can enjoy Simon Ward's food once again. This time he went light years ahead with his creativity and it shown by how fast the news travelled on social media.

I went in on a Sunday morning. The venue located a venue minutes away from Camberwell junction, walking distances from Camberwell station and there's plenty of cark park around. Light Years is a single storey cafe with tinted window, grey surfaces, neon lights. Clearly boosting modern and sleek vibe. The space is separated into a couple different area with table close together, it has an intimate feeling as well as privacy. Thanks to the interior design.

Pixel avocado on sourdough toast - poached egg, chilli air dried kale, edamame hummus, pickled radish, lime and nori ($18) with char grilled salmon ($7). There's also options to add bacon or black pudding or smoked salmon instead of char grilled salmon. Perfectly cooked crispy skin salmon with fresh amazingly cut avocado. The crunchy kale simply tasty, balancing the edamame hummus.

Winter bowl of Jerusalem artichokes - baby dutch potatoes, sweet potato, pumpkin, cauliflower puree, onion soubise, mushroom & chestnut soil, kale, sorrel and Comte cheese ($19) with Australian truffle shavings ($7). You can also add poached eggs or black pudding chorizo to the dish. It's one of the best vegetarian dish ever, the vegetable is fresh, some are crispy and the earthiness from the truffle, just simply perfect. I can believe brunch has elevated this high that truffle is available for an extras. Don't get me wrong, I love it.

Five Spiced Duck Croquette ($7) and Sweet Potato Waffle chips with sriracha mayo ($6). The duck croquettes is delicious, crunchy skin with flavourful inside and tasty sauce. The sides in Light Years is definitely not meant to be just merely a side lines. Sweet potato waffle is super thin and crispy with abundant sriracha mayo.

Matcha Waffles - dark chocolate, lemon cheesecake, strawberry, popping candy and space soil ($21). The presentation is so beautiful, just like a Japanese serene garden. Slight crispiness on the outside layer of waffle with slight bitterness from the matcha. Popping candy appears and spark some excitement. Dark chocolate for a lil bit more bitterness and smoothness. I also love the soil and fresg fruit so much. Perfectly balanced dessert.

Second visit is definitely a must and I would recommend this to anyone who's searching for a top notch new cafe. It's simply amazing, the service is fast even though they are really busy, Sebastian their manager is friendly and professional. Food is amazing and the interior is bright and comfortable. I'm so happy and I want more.
