Mr Hubbard (Invited)

Mr. Hubbard Café & Larder is located at Wattletree Rd, Malvern. It's 7 minutes walk from Malvern Station and has very nice surroundings. The area is peaceful and beautiful, not like the CBD where skyscrapers cover the sky view and noises everywhere. The café and larder is very easy to find. It is small and bright, with two big windows and a glass door.
The place’s theme is simple with dominant basic colours, black, white, and cream. There were some cute details on the walls, which kinda become Mr. Hubbard’s icons. A quote saying “friends with salad” and sacks of plants hung on the wall.We arrived at noon and there were not many diners at the time. There were 2 people serving and also in charge of preparing the food and beverages.

We ordered 2 meals: Open Omelette and Cinnamon, vanilla & almond pancakes; and 2 drinks: Cappuccino and Apple, orange, pineapple juice. When the food was served, they were fresh, looked tempting and amazing. The coffee tasted perfectly fine, smooth, and creamy. However, the juice was never served. Since we realized there were more people coming in and there were only 2 staffs at the moment, so we decided not to make a problem out of it.

The pancakes were a bit blend, the texture was rough, though the toppings were great. There were cuts of strawberries, bananas, topped with chocolate sauce and a scoop of ice cream. The pancakes however did not make it to our recommendation list.

As for the open omelette, it was a bit blend as well but after we added a hint of salt and pepper and it turned out so much better. They put mushroom, kale, and feta cheese on top of the open omelette and added 2 sourdoughs on side. We really liked it, but we wished the sourdoughs were softer since they were hard to cut.

For me the overall dining experience it was pretty decent yet basic. The staffs were nice, and the environment was great. If you’re around the area, it’d be a great place to hang out. I would like to give them another try once they change their menu for the next season.
