Berth (Invited)

Berth is a casual dining restaurant, sitting right by the pier at Docklands. It has been opened since 2005 and has been famous ever since, especially for the stunning view of the buildings, sea, pier and yacht. It has it all. They have an indoor area with glass wall over looking the view, outdoor area when the weather is sunny and warm. They also have a private function area upstairs for any kind of beautiful event.

I have been to Berth before but always at night. This time I had a chance to come back on day time and I can feel the airiness and the spaciness, perfect for large group of people and functions such as a team lunch since Docklands is full of office buildings. Starting with this beautiful and fresh mocktail called Placebo - strawberry with a hint of raspberry.

Crumbed Calamari - tartare sauce, rocket, capers, red onion ($18) and Hervey Bay Scallops - half shell, cauliflower puree, macadamia dukkah crumble ($20). I do feel the calamari portion was a bit small but the scallops was actually quite generous. Both taste decent, honest with a clear Modern Australian taste.

Gnocchi Ragu - rich beef sauce, red wine, fresh thyme ($24) and Queensland King Prawns - chargrilled, nicoise salad, tarragon, pernod vinaigrette ($36). The gnocchi it self was al dente but needed a lil bit of salt in the filling but the beef sauce was strong and delicious. But my fave was the perfectly cooked prawn with cold salad underneath. So refreshing but I just wish the potato was a bit softer then it would be perfect.

Sticky Date Pudding - warm butterscotch sauce, vanilla bean ice cream ($12). My number one highlight of the day. Sticky date has a reputation of being overly sweet and heavy but Berth version was light, not too heavy and has a perfect creaminess and sweetness. I would order this again.

The service was warm, friendly and attentive from the beginning to end. The food comes in quickly without rushing us to dine. But most of all I love the view the most. Who doesn't? The venue was built to enjoy the beautiful view, to showcase it and make it, it's own entertainment. On top of all, the price was really reasonable for a venue so close to the the water.
