Shadowboxer is a contemporary wine bar and restaurant, co owned by Michael, Shelly, Luke and Nick. Combined, they have an amazing resume in hospitality industry, especially in Melbourne. The restaurant opened since end of 2016 located in South Yarra, walking distances from Chapel St and South Yarra Station. Shadowboxer comes from various family stories that hold sentimental and fun value to the owners.

The venue may look petit from the outside but it was long with modern and classy vibe. They also have a small white charming outdoor area perfect for summer but they also have heaters so perfect for any sunny day. Inside, decorated with grey, creme colour and wooden furnitures. We started with some beautiful mocktails made by Luke, in house mixologist and also the owner.

I have been aiming for this 250gm Duck Ribs - house made bbq sauce, jalapeno aioli ($13.5). Gladly, it was also recommended. I can clearly see why it was so popular. Duck ribs is uncommon in restaurants and this was my first time trying it. It was perfectly cooked, crispy outer layer, tender and literally fall of the bone with slightly spicy bbq and super creamy aioli. The jalapeno taste was mild but enough. I ate more than half of it on my own. On top of that I also had their Hervey Bay Scallops and it was perfectly cooked a bit rare in the middle with creamy puree but remain fresh topped with crispy crumbs.

Pan Fried Barramundi - celeriac puree, spinach, lemon carper dressing, red witlof ($33) and Crispy Skin Pork Belly - carrot puree, morcilla crumb, nashi pear salad ($33). At first, I only ordered the barramundi but because it was delicious. We decided to order one more main. So clearly, the barramundi was perfectly cooked with soft meat and super crispy skin. Mixed with creamy fresh puree and tasty spinach, we love the lightness yet flavourful the fish dish. Move on to the pork dish, another beautiful crispy crackling skin with tender melting meat without being too oily. The morcilla crumb was packed full of spiciness balanced with sweet carrot puree and fresh pear.

Chestnut Pannacotta - poached pear, salted caramel, macadamia ($13). This was one of the best pannacotta I ever tasted. My mom think so too. It was super light, wobbly yet creamy. Sometimes, garnishes that comes with pannacotta just simply for presentations or simply there to accompany the pannacotta but this time the flavour actually matched and lifted up each other. The creaminess from the pannacotta, freshness with slight sourness from the poached pear, sweet shiny caramel and roasted nutty saltines flavour from the macamia. Delicious.

All their menu meant to showcase Australian produce as much as possible, they also care regrading sustainability and ethical produce. Next time, I might come and try their short rib, duck leg and their sweet corn. Of course, also trying their cocktails. Shadowboxer, you amaze me.
