Mopho Canteen is a 35 seatings casual style Vietnamese canteen located just a few minutes away from Balaclava station and besides one of my favourite brunch place for breakfast burrito, Las Chicas. Owned by Adam Davis & Samarla Carey. Adam is a chef who previously of Mr Wolf, Circa & Melbourne Wine Room and Samarla is known for her work as restaurant manager at several restaurants at the city such as Stokehouse, Union Dining and Melbourne Supper Club.

Most of Mopho Canteen menu is gluten free and feel free to ask the staff regarding their menu and they will gladly explained it to you. Adam is busy in the kitchen and June is up front handling the management, she was friendly to recommend us what to order and I simply follow her lead. We started of with some fresh coconut, suiting for the strong spices and spiciness we are about to taste.

Pork Spring Rolls - nuoc cham, ice berg herbs ($12/3pcs) and Special dish: chicken with enoki mushrooms. My mom loves the spring rolls, she ate two of them. The skin was thin and crispy with light filling. June came to our table delivering a special dish out of the menu, it's spicy with sweet taste nicely accompanied by the juicy savoury flavour from the chicken and aromatic enoki.

Soft Shell Crab - sriracha mayo, betel leaf, watercress, spring onion salad ($22). Two full size crunchy soft shell crab with a juicy inside, matched with spicy, creamy, rich sirarcha mayo then end fresh leafy greens. I do taste a slight fishiness inside the soft shell crab but the overall taste was yummy.

Seared Tuna - green papaya, fresh herbs, perila, crispy bits, peanut, lime dressing ($19). This was the highlight of my visit, I finished it by my self. My mom only get to taste a lil bit of the salad and she loves the dressings made of refreshing lime, fish sauce and peanut. It does have a strong taste to balanced out the delicate perfectly cooked tuna. There's no fishy taste or smell at all. I also like the crunchy fried shallots and rice cracker on top.

Chocolate Mousse - coconut ice cream , lychee, dried raspberry ($10). My mom does not like chocolate mousse that much be she loves this one. The creaminess, richness and thickness of the chocolate mousse was decadent and delicious with dried crunchy raspberries breaking through with the sourness, fresh lychee and strong coconut ice cream. I simply love them.

Mopho Canteen is unique because they served Vietnamese street food such as banh mi, pho as well as a more refine Vietnamese food such as their soft shell crab and seared tuna. Also known for their generous size with reasonable prices for lunch or dinner. Next time, I will be back to try more of their menu such as chicken wings, pho and banh mi.
