Platform 7 Dinner (Invited)

Platform 7 is adorably wedged between a dentist practice/Asian grocer and a Chinese restaurant. Conveniently located right across Glen Waverly station, we were greeted by dark walls, pops of yellow flowers, and the sultry voice of Ella Fitzgerald when we went inside. Perfect ambience for a dinner out. The interiors and unique artwork really resembled the one at Hash - so I was surprised that the manager said Hash is their sister cafe! Apparently, some of the artwork here is made from coffee and tea - how befitting for a cafe. The artwork is regularly changed to promote the works of local artists. All the items in the menu are locally sourced too!

Now on to the drinks. I ordered the Matcha Latte first and it needed a little more matcha.  The unique Espresso Martini here though, is an absolute must have! The double shot of the espresso is mixed with a Melbourne-based spirit called 'Vantage' made from native botanicals and mandarin - and you really can taste the complexity of these oils in the drink. The hints of floral notes that just simply blooms in the background as the bitterness of the caffeine and the acidity of the mandarin floods in your mouth. Simply scrumptious.

Triple 7 Burger. This majestic triple decker burger landed in our table and we took a second to take it all in. 3 glorious layers of thick patty alternating with slices of bacon with pops of purple from the beetroot. What's scoring on appearance however, was not matched by its flavours. Although the beetroot did an an interesting element to the burger, the patties were a little dry and underseasoned.

Tiger Prawn Gnocchi. The gnocchi was pan-fried into golden perfection. The outer crust of the gnocchi was slightly browned and had a lovely crunch to it which I love in my gnocchi. The tossed shrimps were fresh and went well with the flavours of the gnocchi. Although the seasoning of the gnocchi itself was too salty, the garlic and chili flakes was just balanced by the shrimp.

Overall, dining at Platform 7 was a great start to my Friday night. The manager was so courteous to us and it was interesting to learn more about the restaurant and the support they're giving to the community. They even showcased the works of students from the college nearby! I loved the jazzy tunes that played in the background that transformed the brunch locale into an ambient restaurant.
