Red Wall Palace (Invited)

Red Wall Palace is a relatively new casual dining Chinese restaurant at Hawthorn. Perfectly reachable by public transport such as tram or walking distances from Auburn station.

I was invited by Cindy Song, the owner of Red Wall Palace. Arriving at the restaurant, I thought to my self the sign outside is typical Chinese restaurant but inside it has wooden furnitures, brick walls and poster of their food all over the wall. They also have a small bar and second storey space.

I came in with my mom and three of my team, also my baby then quickly start our lunch with Fried Dim Sim & Chicken Sweet Corn Soup, both dishes were decent. The sweet corn soup comes in a typical Thai looking bowl.

Then we move on to something meaty; Sizzling Steak with Black Pepper Sauce and Pecking Pork Chops. At first, I want to order their peking duck but sadly, they don't have it that day. Their portions was precise to the number of people. The black pepper steak was one of the highlight of our meal, the beef was tender with a nice black pepper sauce but the pecking pork chops has a thick batter even though it taste sweet and enjoyable.

Next courses was all about seafood; Sichuan Fish with Hot Chilli Oil, Salt & Pepper Calamari and Kung Pao Prawn. The sichuan fish was very spicy but we love it, the best out of all dishes. We also like the salt & pepper calamari but the prawn was slightly over cooked and does not taste like a regular kung pao sauce. A bit too sweet for our taste. We get to enjoy the dishes with their Signature House Special Fried Rice. It comes in a pineapple, similar to Thai pineapple fried rice and it also taste similar.

We got to try all of their dessert items; Vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, Fried Ice Cream, Banana Fritters with ice cream, Pineapple Fritters with ice cream and Vanilla ice cream with lychee. We enjoyed both banana and pineapple fritters but overall the presentation needed to be more appealing.

Red Wall Palace also open for functions, group booking and corporate events for up to 40 people. We ended our meal with a full belly and thankful to warm hospitality from Cindy. In my opinion, they are not serving authentic Chinese food, they don't even put chopstick on the table until we ask for it but does not mean it's a bad thing. Red Wall Palace serve Chinese dishes with a slight fusion in taste.
