Paloma Cantina (Invited)

Paloma Cantina is a Mexican Restaurant located at 464 Bridge Rd, Richmond VIC 3121. It is located near tram stop route 48 and has many car parking spots around the place. The restaurant is quite big and spacious, would likely enough to occupy over 100 people at once, inside and outside.

The decoration is very aesthetic with many hanging lights on top of each dining table, many painting and photos hung on the walls, also colourful furniture and one big LED lights written as ‘PALOMA’. In one side of the room is a bar where all drinks orders are made. The atmosphere in the room was very traditional Mexican, with Mexican songs played in its audio, dimmed lights and candles and flowers put on each table. There are also 3 Mexican sauces provided on each table.

It was already dark outside when we arrived at the restaurant. We were served by a very friendly staff named Ali, who helped us find a table with good lighting. We also ended up ordering foods that he recommended: tiger prawns and battered fish tacos, chipotle chicken quesadilla, and pulled beef enchilada completed with Mexican rice and black beans. And we also ordered a mojito and blue lagoon margarita to accompany our dishes. The tacos were okay, the prawn one was really good and the flavours combined nicely in mouth, however the fish taco was bit too fishy. The quesadilla was very tasty, the chicken cooked nicely and it was very easy to cut. The enchilada was great, but when eaten together with its side dishes, it became fantastic. We were surprised as well on how much Mexican rice and black beans could enhance the taste of the enchilada. Both of our drinks tasted fine, but nothing really special though. However, the choice of non-alcoholic drinks in the menu is very limited, which could be pretty inconvenience for underage people.

Overall dining experience was great. It could be better if the place was a bit brighter. Restaurants with dimmed lights could be romantic, but if it’s too dark it could be quite bothering. The service was average, Ali was really friendly and helpful toward us, but the others staffs not so much. However, it is a great Mexican Restaurant with great quality of food and service that is definitely worth to try.
