AU79

Au79 just recently opened in Melbourne, home to the never ending cafe openings. Located in Abbotsfords with 200 seats and charming greenery glass atmosphere. Au79 comes from the same owner as Sir Charles, Addict food and coffee, liar liar and prospect espresso. The cafe is divided into three dining space complete with an open kitchen, mini showcase infront and roastery. The interior is amazing, I love it so much features lots of greens, glass, gold, clean black and white with light timber furnishings, marbles and wall art.

I was recently invited to Prospect Espresso then from Instagram to what I heard from Wesley (Social Media manager for prospect), I knew I have to visit Au79 for a full meal soon. It's the time again to pick up my mom from the airport and on the way back home we arrived at Au79 around 10.30. Surprise, there are people lining up already and the crowd grows overtime.

We started with a warm chai latte, hot chocolate and matcha latte. All were pretty creamy and we love them. The service was a bit of a mess, I think they needed more staff and more training to handle the crowd on weekend. I was seating alone waiting for my family to come, this one staff without asking, trying to sit somebody in the same table as me (not communal table) and she just left immediately, leaving the two person lost. Another staff fixed them to a new table then the same staff that make a mistake in the first place, tries to sit another couple with me, again without asking. Then another staff fixed the second couple somewhere again. As if, she have not learn from her mistake. Twice, she brought some other people drinks to our table.

Okonomiyaki - Japanese pancake with eggplant katsu, yuzu mayo, herbed daikon salad and sweet potato crisps ($18) and smoke salmon. When it comes to Okonomiyaki, I always associate it with crunchy fried vegetables but this version was more like Indonesian perkedel, slightly thin crispy outer layer and mushy soft inside. Even though, it's not an authentic okonomiyaki, the taste was pretty sweet and delicious with perfect combination of sweet potato crisp.

Truffled Croque Madame - grilled gruyere cheese, pickled wild mushrooms, fried egg, sauerkraut ($18) and grilled bacon steak ($5). This was the highlight of our meal. Super fluffy bread, melting cheese, strong truffle and delicious bacon steak.

Crispy Skin Salmon - dill emulsion, puffed grains, freekeh, sea greens and pickled beets ($20). The salmon was very well cooked with a nice touch of dill emulsion and generous puffed grains. Surely a fulfilling dish.

Au79 Burger - wagyu beef patty, mac & cheese, bacon, jack cheese, pickles, tomato, lettuve, dijonnaise and fries ($20). We all thought the burger was decent but nothing really outstanding about it, we were expecting a more generous and cheesy mac and cheese but we do love the crunchy thin french fries.

Belgian Waffle Balls - passionfruit cream, banana compote, fresh pineapple, banana crumb and pandan ice cream ($18). It reminded me of poffertjies which what they are inspired from, I love the passion fruit cream combination with fresh pineapple and smooth banana. I just wish a lil bit stronger pandan flavour on the ice cream.

We ended with their Coconut Pannacotta. Portion wise, they are so small and limited even for one person and the texture was a lil it too dense for me, even though the presentation was so pretty and I love the flavour combination between coconut and passionfruit.

At the end of our meal, Robin, one of the cafe owner came to our table and have a short chat. We told him that we love all the dishes and all of them comes in a generous size with a very reasonable price tag.
