Amigos (Invited)

We went to Amigos in the famous Acland St, St Kilda. The restaurant clearly located in the prime location, in the heart of Saint Kilda and it's only 10-15 minutes walk from Saint Kilda beach. As you may guess from the name, they focus in Mexican cuisines. They provide eat in, take away, functions and also delivery services.

The vibe in the restaurant is lively, vibrant and fun with Mexican music at the background, not too loud which make this place perfect for chatters or for catching up with friends and family. The interior decor is simple, decorated with open bricks and warm colour tone. We were greeted by Jennifer, a very attentive and friendly staff.

When it came to choose the food, we were little bit confused and she helped us and recommended the food and drinks that are popular and mostly ordered from the Mexican perspective. For the drinks, we ordered Pirata and Sangria Roja. I trie similar drink as Pirata in other places before, this one is different. Pirata has perfect a balance from all the combination of rum, passion, pineapple and coconut. The taste was phenomenal because each ingredient does not overcome one to another. Unfortunately it is little bit expensive for the drink ($19.50), but it is worth the try. On the other hand, Sangria Roja - dry red, agave, soda, cinnamon, orange ($9) was very well presented and the taste was pretty good and fresh. I’d say that both drinks were really nice but it depends on how you like it. In the hot weather, I’d prefer SANGRIA ROJA and if you want to chill in with mates or friends, I’d say PIRATA would be the better option.

We were suggested to order Caribbean Rice - white rice, coconut milk, onion, garlic ($6), Guacamole ($5), Taco Al Pastor - white corn tortilla, pork shoulder, onion, coriander pineapple ($7), Nachos - baled corn chips, melted cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream ($15), and Burritos - baked flour tortilla, salsa, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, rice, black bean, corn, chipotle, choice of bee/chicken.chilli corn carne ($23.5). We started with Guacamole, one of my favourite thing about Mexican cuisine. I do think, it’s little bit pricey for a starter dish, but you should try the avocado dipping. It’s really well made and fresh. Love it as usual. I could eat this for days.

At first Caribbean Rice does not look promising because the presentation was very simple. But when you take a bite of it, it's really delicious. Definitely recommended. I could even eat the rice without having any additional side dish. It's that good.

The burritos arrived in a very generous portions, definitely able to make you full straight away. It has a rich taste, perfect balance with salsa, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, rice, black bean, corn & chipotle. You can share it with 2 – 3 persons. The presentation it self is very appealing and the price is relatively cheap which makes this dish is the winner on that day.

Taco Al Pastor is the least dish that I like compared to the others, because the meat is little bit tough and dry. The corn tortilla was nice as well as the combination of onion, coriander and pineapple but sadly, the meat let the dish down.

Of course, we ordered NACHOS since it's one of the most popular dishes in Mexican restaurant. The nachos was served with the generous melted cheese combined with guacamole, salsa and sour cream that would make this dish became my second favourite on that day.

We had a great Mexican food experience at Amigos as well as top notch hospitality and definitely will come back to try some other Mexican dishes.
