Selene's Chocolate Bar (Revisited-Invited)

Selene's Chocolate Bar is located in Box Hill Central, just above the Box Hill train station. The shop is on the corner of a three junction so it has big windows on one side, and a counter where customers can order for takeaways and where all the cakes and macaroons are put on showcase.

The theme of the cafe is highly vintage with chandeliers hanging on the ceilings, wooden furniture, and warm coloured walls. Two of their pillars were shaped like chocolate bar, which is very creative. We were welcomed by the owner, Steven and the marketing representative, Martin. They were very friendly and welcoming toward us. Steven told us that the name Selene was chosen from two different sources. The first reason was because it’s the name Greek’s moon goddess and the second reason was because Selene is Steven’s wife’s name.Everything they are selling is made in the house, which is very pleasing to know that they are taking a serious commitment about their products. The shop is big enough for around 30-40 customers at once. However it can get pretty noisy since many people were talking loudly.

They have many varieties of chocolate drinks. Steven is really passionate about chocolate that he studied and has high knowledge about chocolate. So he claimed that Selene Chocolate offers different ranges of chocolate for everyone. We ordered 2 marshmallow hot chocolates. One with milk chocolate base and the other one with dark chocolate base. They came out a bit too sweet than we thought, but if you’re a fan of sweetness then they are perfect for you.

We also tried 2 of their cakes, the famous Mister Matcha and their Orange Almond Cake. The green tea cake was white chocolate based, which was a bit too sweet for me, but still very tasty. The orange almond cake was perfect. Its texture was soft but not too delicate. Besides the cakes, Selene’s Chocolate Bar also sells macaroons, waffle and other sweet desserts.

Overall, the only thing that makes this chocolate shop better than others is because they offer you different types of chocolate, and you surely will find which one suits you best. All the staffs were well trained and acknowledged, so they will be able to assist you choosing your preference. A total 3 out of 5 stars given for Selene’s Chocolate Bar.
