Deko Boko

Deko Boko is a cute and modern Japanese cafe located at Richmond. They served coffee, cakes, innovative matcha drinks, sandwiches, curries, rice dishes, ramen, wine, beer and many more. Their dessert is similar if not the same with Kyoto Cafe in Eastland Shopping Centre.

I saw some of the dishes on Instagram then decided to visit them on Friday afternoon. The cafe wall full of Japanese products with an open bar, open kitchen, wooden separators,  Japanese kitchenware, ornaments to make the whole atmosphere even more authentic.

I started with their Iced Matcha Latte ($4.8) and Hojicha Ice Cream ($3.5). Their matcha latte taste pretty good with a nice balanced between matcha flavour, sweetness and creaminess from the milk. I have been a big fan of Hojicha and my favourite Hojicha in Melbourne is on Kyo Tea House Chadstone but this version was not bad at all. Creamy with prominent Hojicha flavour but it's a touch too sweet for me and over whelm the natural flavour of hojicha.

Mixed Dessert Plate - Matcha Cheesecake, Chocolate Caramel Orange, Stawberry Opera, Hojicha Caramel, Mango Yuzu and Grapefruit ($18). I have to honestly say all their cakes were pretty good, not overly sweet and texture wise they are creamy, smooth and delicious. My favourite was the matcha cheesecake, the crunchiness balanced the matcha denseness but the hojicha cake also delicious, the caramel balanced the hojicha bitterness really well.

I love the quietness of the cafe with free wi fi, perfect for working or studying. There were only two staff around, one in the kitchen and one in the bar. I think they needed more people for peak hours and to improve their attentiveness. But besides that I like this small Japanese cafe.
