Colonel Tan's

Colonel Tan's belongs to the same group as Boney, Cookie, Magic Mountain Saloon and The Toff in Town. Located up in a very long flight of stairs in the famous Chapel St. Serving a variant of affordable Thai traditional and fusion cuisine, very popular among the young and hip crowd.

The restaurant it self was messy but attractive, grungy retro interior, dim lighting, exposed brick, mismatch colours, DJ set inside a cage and cheap table cloths wear you normally find at a street food kiosk in Thailand.

We started with Peppered Pork & Betel Leaf Sticks, Tomato Relish ($12.5). The betel leaf was cooked but match really well with the sweet peppered pork. The texture of the pork is close to Chinese sausage called lap chong and mixed in with super fresh tomato relish, which surprisingly worked really well.

We wanted to order the Lamb Curry and Curried Soft Shell Crab with Egg, Red Peppers & Snow Peas ($28.5) with Roti Bread ($3.5) and Coconut Rice ($3.5) but the staff said it would be too much for the two of us so we cancelled the Lamb Curry and she was right, the soft shell crab comes in a very generous portions and I'm glad it did. Because I love it so much, the rich yellow curry, crunchy soft shell crab matched really well with the sweet rich coconut rice. The let down was the super dry roti bread.

It was a wonderful dinner and I couldn't wait to come back to try more of their food even though I hate going to their bathroom cause it's not that clean and the place is not appropriate at all for family or kids.
