Sake is a well known restaurant for modern Japanese cuisine. Flinders Lane is their second venue in Melbourne, the first venue is located at Hamer Hall and they also owned 2 other restaurants in Sydney and another one in Brisbane. Flinders lane is headed by Executive Chef Jean Paul Lourdes, with his impressive experiences at three start Michelin restaurant in Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo Sake once again showcase innovative creative Japanese cuisines supported with Victoria's high quality produce.

I was celebrating one of my brother's achievement and since he loves Japanese food, we always go to a Japanese restaurant every time he had something to celebrate. This time I picked Sake. It was pretty empty on a weekdays lunch time and we were given a choice of sushi bar or table, we picked table for more comfort. The decorations screams modern luxurious vibe with black wood and blonde wood paneling, exposed open kitchen, spacious two storey restaurant.

Salmon Belly Nigiri ($12/2p), Sashimi Salmon ($20/4pcs) and Rainbow Roll - toro, salmon, hamachi, ume ($26). The salmon belly was beautifully cut and fresh, so does the salmon sashimi and rainbow roll but the price was quite high.

Hokkaido Scallop - seaweed, gremolata, ginger, lime ($19) and Beef Tataki - shichimi togarashi, plump ($18). Sadly, I didn't like the hokkaido scallop dish, I rather lighter and simpler sauce to let the scallop shine. The beef tataki was delicious, thinly cut and uniquely partnered but somehow works.

Chicken Skin Yakitori, Steamed Prawn Shumai ($19) and Duck Katsu ($14). Chicken skin yakitori is one of my favourite yakitori and what's not too like about crispy chicken skin? Yum! Their prawn shumai is one of their signature dish, uniquely presented with noodles wrapping the shumai provided different texture with fresh prawn inside. The duck katsu was really enjoyable, crunchy on the outside and juicy duck inside.

Miso Caramelised Black Cod ($42) and Slow Cooked Pork Belly ($36). The pork belly was pretty nice and warm in your stomach but sadly the black cod was disappointing. It comes in a really small portions and have some fishy taste as well as it needed much more of the miso sauce.

Chocolate Aero - crystalized violets, madagascan vanilla ($15). Creative desserts and very well presented. The taste mixed between chocolate, honeycomb, violets and vanilla, both me and my brother loves it.

The service was a bit of a let down cause the food takes so long to arrived on our table and they did forgot some of our orders. It's also very difficult to get any attention from the staff even though the restaurant only had 4 tables of people.
