Platform 3 (Invited)

Platform 3 is a restaurant serving from breakfast to dinner also functioning as a bar. It's located in the centre of Box Hill Central but far away enough from the busy market, station and food court but still walking distances from Box Hill station and plenty of car park on the mall.

I was invited to Platform 3 and decided to visit on a weekdays night. To my surprise the places was pack full of people, outside full of people hanging out having a beer and tapas and inside there was an office function. Spencer, the owner reserved a seat for me near the window. The place it self was comfortable, warm with wooden furniture and full bar. We started the dinner with Snow White - rich coconut shake ($12), The Hulk - creamy avocado shake ($12) and Chai Latte ($4.5). The Hulk is one of the best freak shake I have ever tasted, it was rich, creamy and fresh. I think all freak shakes should taste like this. The snow white also tasty, sweet but thiner than the hulk, both topped with cupcakes. Their chai latte was pretty decent and warm.

We begin with some tapas; Flying Pigs - whole chicken wing stuffed with Japanese kurobota pork served with a wedge of lime ($12/2pcs) and Chicken Karaage - Japanaese fried chicken served with roasted sesame mayo ($12). The flying pigs is an interesting concept but the filling somehow a bit too dry for my taste but the chicken karaage was really good. Crispy, tender inside and full of flavour wirh light roasted sesame sauce. I wish for more of that sauce.

Spencer recommended this dish to me so I ordered them; Traffic Sliders - Angus beef on beetroot brioche, lime zest chicken tenderloin wirh wasabi mayo on tumeric brioche, barramundi with dill aoili on spirulina brioche served with chips ($22). Honestly it's unique, each burger has different bun, sauce, salad and meat. My favourite was the chicken burger, the avocado with wasabi mayo was so delicious mixed in with sweet soft tumeric brioche and tender chicken. The beetroot bun was a bit dry and a lil bit tougher than the rest of the bun but the beef was tender, I do think it needed a lil bit more sauce. The barramundi burger kinda fall in between, it was good. The fish was well made as well as the chips.

Porterhouse Steak - top class black angus beef with chips and salad ($29) with Spicy Squid Rings - five spices, chilli and peppercorn ($12) on the side. The steak was well cooked and the sauce was pretty good. A decent cut of steak and worth the price. On the other hand the squid was very well cooked and seasoned, crunchy, not too greasy and tasty.

We were greeted and take care by Spencer until the very last dish. He's a very friendly, funny guy and really passionate about people and food. He's greatly involve in the making of all the dish at Platform 3 and it shown. It was an enjoyable dinner and I don't mind coming back.
