New Shanghai

I first encounter New Shanghai when I visited Sydney and my friend introduce me to it. It'a quite cheap Chinese restaurant with a large portion and decent settings. My husband really likes it and he wonders when New Shanghai will expand it wings to Melbourne.

Little that we know, we don't have to wait that long. New Shanghai started with Emporium, Melbourne then finally Chadstone. The restaurant was spacey, perfect for big groups, family with kids and prams. My husband has been wanting to dine in at Chadstone store but the line has been pretty long since it first opened but finally we get in.

This is the dish that makes him want to visit New Shanghai again and again. Pan Fried Pork Buns ($13.8/8pcs). It has a thin broth inside it just like xia long bao but a crispiness on the outside just like a fried buns. Somehow the fillings was a little bit blend, a little salt or soy would fix the problem instantly.

We also ordered Yangzhou Fried Rice - classic Chinese fried rice ($12.2) and Rainbow Beef - sweet and sour crispy beef ($22.7). The fried rice was average and a bit blend but the rainbow beef was crunchy, sweet and delicious.

The service was friendly but remain quick and friendly. They do charge for a take away box which I found more and more restaurant are doing the same thing. I don't necessarily happy with it since I'm sure they still make tons of profit without charging for it. But overall, the visit was pretty enjoyable.
