Libertine & Co is a brunch place located in Collingwood. The cafe can be easily found in the corner of Johnston St and Campbell St. There are plenty of parking spots near the area and it's only 5 minutes walk from the Victoria Park train station. This place opened around 3 months a go.

I was originally invited by the owner daughter end of last year but haven't got anytime to visit before they close for the holiday seasons. The owner, Libby welcomed us when we arrived. She let us to choose our own seats and gave us the menu. She was so friendly despite that my representative come late to the appointment due to some unfortunate reasons. The cafe it self was simple with rustic themed furniture, big windows allowing the natural light to enter and fresh flowers to brighten up the place. They have an indoor and outdoor people available to accommodate around 25 people all at once.

We ordered The Baba and the Fritters with Glorious Green and Strawberry smoothies to accompany our dishes. The Baba contained of capsicum, coriander, cucumber, tomato and spring onion salad with poached eggs and baba ganoush on sourdough. The salad was crunchy and fresh and they tasted amazing combined together. The taste was combination between Mexican-Australian dishes. The sourdough was soft and easy to cut.

The fritters were made of corn and potato, topped with zucchini, salmon (or prosciutto), rocket and a poached egg. What I loved the most about this dish was the freshness of the salmon and the fritters were not oily. The fritters actually reminded me of Indonesian dish called martabak, since there was quite some Asian taste in it. It was sweet and salty, the eggs and corn could be tasted strongly. However, the texture was a bit too soft which made it hard to eat with fork.

The smoothies were blended nicely, they were light-bodied and not too sweet. However, they felt just like any other usual smoothies, nothing too special. The glorious green contained of banana, kiwi, spinach, mint, lemon and coconut water. The strawberry smoothies contained of banana, chia seeds, vanilla and milk. Besides the main dishes and smoothies, they also sell breads and cake slices, coffee, tea, juices, and kreol (cider with flavour).

During our meal, we talked a lot with Libby who was keeping us accompanied about how her cafe started. She named her café after her, Libertine and put ‘& Co’ behind it because she felt like her families and friends have always became full support to her. So it is a family-based business and everyone involved in the café were families or close friends. Her goal is to make her café a place where people feel welcomed and comfortable. She’d love to be known as a humble homecook and her dishes as food with a flare. I love spending time in her café. It felt very homey and the staffs were super friendly. The food was amazing and the view was also nice.
