Leroy's (Invited)

Leroy's is a name after the local cat known to wander around the block. The cafe suffered from some flood damaged earlier this year and the owners used this as the opportunity to refurbish the cafe. Located extremely close to Newport station, quickly becomes the local favourite. Leroy is a family friendly cafe as well as pet friendly. Together with Head Chef Sam Pazone (ex Gault and Milau) they created a menu with fresh vibrant ingredients.

I was invited to Leroy to try their brand new menu and I gladly took my brother with me since he is on holiday. The cafe divided into three area; indoor decorated with blonde wood furnitures, semi outdoor area which I love so much perfect for summer or winter and the kids area at the backyard (currently under construction). We started our brunch with some fresh orange juice, coffee and chocolate malt milkshakes. The juice was nice and fresh but the chocolate malt was a touch too sweet and too thin. The coffee was strong and a bit too bitter for me.

Newport Hollan Daze - hash browns, smashed avocado, smoked trout, poached eggs, hollandaise, rocket and parmesan ($16.9). My brother seems to love this dish so much but the hollandaise was a bit too thin, a lil bit creamier would be nice but the hash brown was crunchy with a perfectly cooked egg.

Soft Shell Crab Burger - tempura fried soft shell crab, saffron aioli, tomato, lettuce in a black bun and side rustic chips ($17.5). The bun was nice fluffy and sweet, the aioli was creamy but barely taste the saffron. I would like soft shell crab to me more crunchy and tasty.

OMG Pancake - pancake, whipped ricotta coffe cream, salted coffee cacao, hazelnut crumb, popping candy, burnt fig ice cream and chocolate fairy floss ($16.9). The pancake was large and quite dense but the sauce was creamy and nice.

The overall portions was generous with reasonable prices and definitely give Newport a breath of fresh air with their innovative brunch food. The service was friendly but not all the staff are properly trained, there are some that look pretty loss when I talk to them.
