Junkyard (Invited)

Junkyard just merely opened around two weeks ago. Owned and managed by the same man as Sardi but this time they pride them self in focusing on healthy food and a lot more vegan and vegetarian varieties.

I was invited by Ash and decided to come in on early gloomy Sunday morning. The place it self it's a little bit hidden with no clear sign so it's a little bit hard to find. I parked on the street in front of the cafe then went up the stairs then finally find the cafe. The cafe it self was petit decorated with wooden furnitures but I love the wall art, it's catchy and memorable.

I started my breakfast with a decent cup of Coffee and Dragon Fruit - mango, orange juice, coconut, rice malt syrup, passionfruit ($9.9). The smoothies was really nice and I love it so much, fresh, unique sweet flavour without being too much.

Matcha Tacos - southern fried chicken, red pepper aioli, grilled pineapple salsa and feta cheese ($20.5). This is one of the recommended menu by the chef, the tacos are homemade even though they don't have any matcha taste just the green colouring, the chicken was really tasty and crunchy. The pineapple salsa is on point for summer.

Grilled Salmon Fillet - broad bean puree, walnuts, cured beetroot, chard leaves, fennel, blood orange and horseradish cream ($21.5). The salmon was well cooked even though the salmon it self is a bit too small but loves the blood orange for extra freshness.

Coconut, Raspberry & Citrus Hot Cakes - almond, coconut, black sesame granola toasted in organic coconut oil, rice malt syrup, frozen raspberries and coyo ($20.5). The textures of the hot cakes it self was fluffy, soft, smooth and warm, I love it but the combination of flavours was a bit too sour for my taste. Somehow I imagine the combination of flavour in the dragon fruit smoothies would go well with this pancakes.

The service was friendly, attentive and fast, perfect for a petit cafe like this. Junkyard has a lot of potential to be next new popular cafe in St Kilda area, can't wait to see more of their innovation in the future.
