El Rincon (Invited)

El RincΓ³n is a Spanish restaurant located at Victoria Market, which is very accessible to reach with any kind of transportation. All trams in Elizabeth St stop at the Victoria Market tram stop and there are lots of parking lots for cars and bikes on the side of the street. The restaurant is not particularly big but is surely enough to hold 20 people seating. The decorations and paintings inside definitely help to enhance their cozy Spanish ambiance.

After some small talks we were served El RincΓ³’s homemade Sangria. It tasted very nice, light bodied but rich flavor and a hint of sour from the lemon slice. The homemade Sangria was Manuel’s, the owner of the restaurant traditional family recipe. Then entrΓ©e was served. It was called Salmorejo and olives which is the sauce and eaten with the bread which I love.

There are three main dishes that we got to taste, the first one is Spanish croquettes with jamon Serrano and chorizo. The inside was creamy and soft but the outside was crunchy. The filling was warm and melting in the mouth. The second dish is sardinas fritas. Basically it was fried sardines and cod (bacalao) croquettes. However, we think that the dish was too fishy and probably not suitable for people who have sensitivity or allergy toward fish. To help reduce the fishiness, they provide a slice of lemon on the plate. Overall the sardinas fritas was okay.

The third main dish is called albondigas, which is spanish meatballs with almond sauce. The meatball was cooked well done and soft. It was put on top of bread and glazed with the almond sauce. The sauce was a bit too much but was so well combined together. Last but not least, the dessert was a Spanish flan. It was similar with bread pudding and had a sweet taste, soft texture, and served cold. It was served together with whip cream and a swirl of chocolate sauce.

If you like to try Spanish dishes, El RincΓ³n is definitely worth to try. The prices are reasonable and the staffs were super friendly. It was a great experience to have my dinner at the place! Cheers xx "
