Pillar of Salt

Pillar of Salt is one of the top popular brunch spot in Melbourne, you will find it in numerous articles and has been the locals favourite since they opened the doors in 2011. They love creating new innovative dish using high standards local produce.

This is the second time I visited Pillar of Salt, the first visit was awesome so when I saw the change of menu I quickly went in again. It's Sunday morning around 9am and I have to wait for almost an hour for a table. The cafe it self divided into 3 space, several tables out front, indoor and small courtyard at the back. I was seated at the courtyard on my first visit and I love it, on my second visit they gave us a table right in front of the cafe which I'm not recommending to anyone during a windy day or busy day cause there are dust flying everywhere at all times and it spoiled your food. I started my meal with a decent cup of 5 senses cappuccino ($5) and super delicious raspberry mango Rustica cronut.

American Style Buttermilk Pancakes - fresh strawberries, activated walnuts, strawberry callebaut chocolate, creme fraiche, wild berry coulis ($14). Their pancakes is one of the most popular dish at Pillar of Salt, every season they change the toppings. This time is strawberry and chocolate, who doesn't love a good twist on strawberry and chocolate? While the pancake was light and fluffy and the toppings combinations was fresh and well matched, I had to wait almost another hour for it to be delivered to my table.

Marinated Chicken Ribs Korean Style - honey, kimchi glaze, fine spicy leek salad ($18.5). Sadly, this dish does not deliver in term of texture, they were serve soggy. The taste was quite nice but waiting almost an hour, makes my expectation higher since I'm getting hungrier by the minute.

I have to say my first visit to Pillar of Salt was much better than the second one in terms of service and food, maybe next time I'll stick to weekdays. Would love to comeback when the matcha pancake is back on the menu.
