Hawthorn Common

Hawthorn Common had been there for years, owned by Danny Colls (Cafe Racer and Silo by Joost) and George Skyotis (The Press Club, Jimmy Grants and Gazi). It has been a popular destination for the locals and even on the weekdays they are almost always full of people. They pride them self in using seasonal produce and makes everything from scratch. They owned their own stone mil bakery, coffee roaster, small vegetable garden and heat microbe based composter to handle all their organic waste.

One of my friend work nearby and he wanted to catch up for lunch. The last time we met we went to Bawa Cafe so he opted for Hawthorn Common instead. It situated above the street level with an airy, open spaced sun drench deck and bright white main room. The modern vibe with black and white portraits of those contributed in creating Hawthorn common and open kitchen creates an intriguing vibe.

Classic Burger - Victorian beef, cheese, cos lettuce, pickle, fresh tomato, special sauce with hand cut chips ($18) and bacon ($2). My friend have a very specific dietary requirement so he the burger comes without the bun and cheese. He did said it's pretty delicious.

Barramundi - Slow roasted tomato tart, cumquat, pinenut and current agrodolce dressing ($26). My fish was very well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I love it so much, I managed to finish the whole dish and still wanting more.

Hawthorn Common is nothing common at all. I love the interior design of the main room as well as the sun deck. I can imagine drinking a glass of fresh juice on summer days with my friends or simply by my self reading my favourite book. I do think they need more staff during the peak hours cause it was so hard for us to get any attention from the staff.
