Higher Ground

Higher Ground finally opened after owner Nathan Toleman, Ben Clark, Diamond Rozakeas, Sam Slattery, Kim Sheridan and Nate Wilkins bought the heritage 19th century property two years a go. They had an amazing collections of chefs creating unique breakfast, lunch and dinner menu.

I was so excited to try the new Top Paddock and Kettle Black sibilings and luckyly I had my friend coming all the way from Perth for a business trip. His office located near the higher ground so we decided to give it a try during the lunch hour. As predicted I have to wait around 30 minutes for a tavle for two and ended up being sitted at a communal table. The cafe it self is very well designed, one of my favourite in Melbourne. They have over 3 levels with extremely high roof with tall arch window, wooden furnishings and plants.

Their coffee is supplied by The Square One and I ordered my regular Skinny Cappuccino. I love the calming blue mountain design on the cup.

Wagyu Short Rib Roll - sesame, daikon, chilli, crisp vegetables ($19). My friend opted for something a little bit heavier but turns out the portion was not that big, it would be nice if it comes with chips. The bun was soft and fluffy, the beef was tender and well seasoned.

Steamed Market Fish - Japanese broth, wakame, radish, blackbean and sesame ($26). I came for this dish, the fish of the day is snapper. The flavour was so light and delicate, I could easily eat more of this aromatic dish.

The service was relatively fast but it's not a place where you can hang out and chill for a long time since there are plenty of people waiting. I would definitely come back for the fish and maybe try their dinner menu next time. I had a feeling Higher Ground is here to stay and become one of the top places in Melbourne. Looking forward for more to come.
