Brae opened in 2013 by Dan Hunter is a modern Australian restaurant. Brae means a hillside or a gentle slope. Dan Hunter, the owner and Head Chef have previously travel around the globe and worked at various world's famous restaurants such as Mugaritz, Spain, Dunked's Royal Mail Hotel and many more. He has won The Age Good Food Guide's 2012 Chef of The Year. Brae is a restaurant, farm complete with a luxury guest suites. Together with Brae Restaurant Manager, Simon Freeman they won Three Hats by The Age Good Food Guide on their first year. In 2015 Brae ranked 83 in the World Best Restaurant List and in 2016 ranked 63.

I just completed one of my big project and have worked really hard for the past 6 months, barely get enough sleep so when it ended all I want is a relaxing day with good food and silent. My husband surprised with a booking at Brae, sadly they only have 6 suites and they were all full so I have to stay somewhere else. But I'm very excited to dine at one of the world renowned restaurant especially it's at my  own home town. Brae interior was modern, warm yet minimalistic with 30 productive acres. Their degustation menu is $190/pp with wines +$125 or non alcoholic beverages +$65. I heard they will increase the price starting from December 2016.

Our dinner started with three appetisers; Purple plum radish and lemon myrtle,Brook trout and nut butter crisp & Midnight pure potato and smoked eel sandwich.

Prawn, nasturtium, finger lime. This dish was so smoky, flavourful and enjoyable. I would love to have more of this anytime.

Clams and lily pilly in green tomato juice. My husband loves this dish so much but for me it still have a lil bit fishy taste even though the lily pilly and green tomato juice balanced the clams really well.

Iced oyster. This one of my favourite dish of the night as well as my husband. I have never eaten oyster this way and I love them so much. It still have the flavour yet refreshing and no fishy taste or smell at all. They are accompanied by Beef tendon and mountain pepper. Super crunchy and tasty.

All the first dish was accompanied by this refreshing, sweet and bubbly drink; Jasmine, elderflower tonic, pink grapefruit.

Crayfish and burnt potato, sunflower, milk and mustard accompanied by Iced Lapsang Soughong, fennel seed and orange. This is my second favourite dish of the night. It was creamy, smoky and full of flavour.

Eggplant and salt grass lamb washed with sweet onion juice, fragrant and acidic plants accompanied by Cos lettuce, granny smith, salted hazelnut praline. The eggplant was nicely smoky with a tender lamb and refreshing drink to balanced it up.

Hapuku, turnip and mustard greens, fish roe whipped onion. Australian Sencha, citrus, lemon myrtle. I wish the fish was a little bit bigger in portions but it was well prepared and refreshing.

Barbecued pine mushrooms and Brae farm egg yolk, meat broth with seaweeds accompanied by Infusion of echinacea and burdock root. This dish was earthy, deep and rich.

Aged Pekin duck wood roasted on the bone, red kuru cream and walnut accompanied by Larsen & Thompson Organic Rooibos with honey from their own hives. The duck only eats apple and pear during the winter and strawberry during the summer. I would love a little bit more of this duck and a little bit more tender. The drink on this dish is my favourite through out the night.

Quince simmered with vanilla, sheep's milk and Brae farm honey spiced pear and coconut. I enjoyed this dish so much. It's sour yet refreshing, it has a complete balanced of flavour and texture.

Parsnip and apple accompanied by Pink lady and chamomile. This is one of their signature dish and has been there on the menu since the very first day they opened. I love this dish, crunchy but not oily with creaminess on the bottom. Love every bite of it and more please!

Rhubarb and pistachio, blood and preserved blackberry. This is the last dish of the night, a nice lil dish to ended the dinner.

My highlight was I get to meet the Chef Dan Hunter at the end of our dinner. I even get to enter the kitchen and have a small chat with him as well. It was a nice night. Thanks Brae!
