Ascot Food Store

Ascot Food Store is one the cafe I get to known via Instagram. Just by looking at those syringed doughnuts, it made me want to go there as soon as possible, so I did.

The cafe was minimalist, homey, a bit messy yet chic with crazy colours pop here and there. It's not suitable for large group of people cause they only have one long communal table. They have plenty of tables indoor for two-four people and some outdoor as well.

The first thing I notice was this cute arrangement of salt and pepper, they are just unique and a nice touch to the table settings. I ordered my regular cappuccino and it was pretty thin and too bitter for my taste.

Apple Wood Smoked Ocean Trout, Freekeh, Roasted Cauliflower, Coriander, Cress, Shredded Kale ($19). The trout was cooked perfectly, still raw in the middle, crispy skin but it taste pretty blend so I have to add pepper and salt to make it shine. The kale was delicious as well as the roasted cauliflower.

"AFC" Ascot Food Chicken, Spicy Chicken Wings, Potato & Gravy, Slaw & Brioche Bun ($15). The chicken was crispy with minimal batter and still tender inside with punching flavours, a little bit spicy. It was clearly has an Asian influence to it which I love. The brioche was delicious, fluffy, flavourful.

After all that build up on social media, I have to order their doughnuts and that they have 3 flavours but they ran out peach and white chocolate so I ordered the rest of the flavours. Mixed Berry & White Chocolate Doughnuts. Sadly, it was dense but the berry and white chocolate combinations just a classic flavour combinations that works. Another point is even though the syringe was a fun attractive accessories, the flavour just not live up to expectation.

Snickers Doughnuts. Similar with the mixed berry, the doughnut was quite dense and somehow a bit grainy. The snickers was too sweet.

At the end of the day, I'm dreaming of the brioche. I could only imagine how good the other dish with brioche in it such as their soft shell crab burger or 62 degrees eggs or duck eggs with brioche. Anyway, I'll be back to try them sometime soon.
