George Jones Eatery (Invited)

George Jones Eatery opened by Paul Vernuccio (Cheeky Monkey, ex Rubber Duck). Paul has been called George a lot since the cafe opened early February this year. The truth is George Jones was the first shop keeper in Pascoe Vale (1841). He also successfully sued the Victoria Railways commissioners for striking George horse and chart while making grocery. George Jones is an all day eatery, serving for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I was invited by George Jones Team to have a taste of their produce driven and defined food. Vernuccio hired Jason Shiong (ex Longrai, Di Bella Coffee Roasting Warehouse) to consult on the menu and priduced by Liam Radford. I was given a choice to taste their day time menu such as their green eggs or dinner time menu. I opted for the dinner menu. I went in on a Saturday night and the room was busy and lively. The restaurant it self was spacey, airy with modern ,clean and stylish theme. Decorated with white walls, wooden furnitures, hanging lamps and a touch of greenery. They also have an outdoor seatings for the sunny days in front of the eatery.

They have various non alcoholic drinks such as coffee, tea, iced tea, juice, milkshakes as well as alcoholic drinks like cocktail, beer and wine. Their coffee was made properly, fluffy milk, strong coffee without being to bitter.

Pan Fried Saganaki - lemon, fig compote, sorrel leaves ($12). My partner loves cheese and he knows he should other this dish, the minute he saw it. It was delicious and the fig compote balanced out the cheese perfectly.

Thai Sticky Pork & Papaya Salad - Asian herbs, peanuts, chilli, tamarind dressings ($19.9). This one of the popular menu and one of their recommendation as well. The sticky pork was super crispy but tender and full of flavour inside. The salad contains various strong flavour but balanced with the tamarind sweet dressings and a little bit of heat from the chilli.

Special: Duck Leg Confit with Kipfler potatoes, kaiserfleisch, brussel sprouts and mustard dressing ($28). The duck was cooked properly, super crispy skin but remain tender and flavourful inside. I enjoyed this dish so much together with the sauces and tasty potatoes.

Sticky Date Pudding - butterscotch sauce, pistachio ice cream ($12). To end the perfect dinner, dessert is a must. The pudding it self was sweet, sticky and moist. My partner loves it but we prefer the butterscotch sauce to be served separately so we can have an option of how much sauce we want. The pistachio ice cream it self was delicious but I still prefer vanilla ice cream to balanced out the sweetness.

The service was super friendly, attentive and helpful even though the place was really busy. Another plus point is George Jones have plenty of space for prams and kids, they also have a changing table at their restroom. Their portions are really generous with a very reasonable price. I appreciate the warm hospitality, looking forward to come back and maybe try their day time menu next time.
