Hellenic Republic started in 2008 at their first location Brunswick East. Opened by the famous George Colombaris and Travis McAuley serving traditional Greek food with a modern twist. Their second restaurant is in Kew and the upcoming third restaurant located in Williamstown named Hellenic Hotel. Their philosophy is to keep things simple, clean and focus on the freshness of the product.

I was the official photographer for another Global Feast Food Social event. G stands for Greece, that's why PS choose Hellenic Republic. What better restaurant represents Greece better than one of George Colombaris creation. The event take place upstairs in one of their private room with an open kitchen. Travis him self was there and in the middle of the dinner he also kindly take us to the kitchen downstair and showcase their wood fire oven.

Taramosalata - white cod roe drip ($10). Super creamy dip and one of my favourite Greek dips at all times. I had a similar version at Gazi but I somehow think this one is better. Best eaten with Pita Bread ($5)

Tzatziki ($9). My favourite Greek dips at all times, mixed in with pita bread really well as well as lamb, beef or pork. Just simply love it.

Kafalograviera saganaki, peppered fig ($15). I love this dish so much, super tasty and melt in your mouth moment. The peppered fig was aromatic and delicious.

Beef Riblets - baklava crumbs ($18). This is my favourite dish of the night. The beef was so tender, just fall of the bones. Baklava is a sweet dessert but they managed to mixed it in to a savoury dish. The unique baklava crumbs brings certain sweetness to the dish enhanced the beef flavour. I wish I had more of this.

Chargrilled Octopus - dill, almond, Santorini vinegar ($23). The octopus was perfectly cooked with smokey flavour and taste with vinegar to add acidity. The almond provide crunchy texture to complete the dish.

Whole Lamb Shoulder - garlic, oregano with roast lemon and herb potatoes ($32). The lamb was tender, well prepared and very well seasoned. The potato was sweet and match perfectly with the lamb.

Cypriot Grain Salad ($13). I have tasted similar salad at Gazi and it was refreshing, full of texture and rich in ingredients. A unique salad indeed.

Risogalo - rice pudding, salted caramel, shortbread crumble, pistachio ($10). Very creamy and rich, I quite like it. Balanced in texture and flavour.

It was another great event with great food, great chef and great companion. I get a chance to have a chat with Travis as well as his assistant Dany. The next Food Social event would be H - Hong Kong.
