Uncommon opened in December 2015 with a ranged of unique uncommon dishes using organic, sustainably grown produce. They start with brunch but now following the trend, they also served dinner. Healthy eating is one of the most dominant theme in Melbourne's brunching scene and Uncommon with Chef Matt Kennedy decided to join the crowd with something a little bit uncommon.

I decided to visit Uncommon cause it spark my curiosity, they combined ingredients that aren't commonly used together. The cafe it self was beautiful, airy, bright with abundant plants hanging from the ceilings. I honestly love the vibe.

I ordered my regular Skinny Cappuccino ($4) and it was pretty decent. My partner decided to try their Vanilla Bean Matcha Latte with Honey ($4.8). It was pretty blend, needed a little bit more matcha and honey in it.

90% Banana & Golden Flaxseed Pikelets - Yarra Valley strawberries, purple grape, poached green melon, pure maple and toasted milk ($16.5). There was a prominent amount of banana in the pikelets but it was delicious. Love the mixture of strawberries, grape, poached green melon and toasted milk crumbs. The let down was the level of sweetness, it was too sweet for my taste.

Cape Grim Beef Short Ribs - sunny side eggs, green tomato, mild chilli & river mint salsa ($24.9). It was a cold morning and I needed something a little bit more substantial and the short ribs was tender, the meat practically fall of the bones, the eggs was perfectly cooked but everything was pretty blend. I have to add a handful of salt and pepper to spiced things up. I just wish they added more spices and flavours into the beef.

The other popular dish at Uncommon is their hand sliced salmon pastrami. Overall, I love the interior but the service was really slow, hectic and a little bit messy on the time I visited, it was a Sunday morning around 9.30am. One of the staff did say they needed more people and one of them was sick that day. Uncommon does have a heavy competition and still relatively new, I would like to see their progress in the future.
