Chicken rice is one of the iconic Singaporean food. In Singapore, there are numerous places serving this iconic dish. Almost every coffee ship, hawker centre and food courts served Chicken rice. Bun Tong Kee is certainly one of the most popular along with Wee Nan Kee and Tian Tian. Bun Tong Kee opened by Mr Thian Boon Hua in 1979, it started with a small stall in Chinatown. Due to high demand they opened their first Boon Tong Kee's restaurant at Balestier Road in 1983. Today, the have multiple branches all around Singapore.

The restaurant was simple, typical Chinese restaurant and people are lining up by 11.30am. Their service was fast, attentive but don't expect them to be too friendly.

I ordered Crispy Roast Chicken ($14.8 - half). The chicken has crunchy skin but tender inside and full of flavour.

Signature Boiled Chicken ($5 - single portions). Their signature boiled chicken was light, soft and tasty and the chilli was a nice addition to the chicken.

Century Eggs ($1.5/each). Sometimes century eggs have a bit of fishy flavour and smell but Boon Tong Kee managed to make it well.

Chicken Rice ($0.8/portions). The chicken rice was perfectly cooked with a nice Hainanese  flavour and fragrant smell.

Barley ($3). This is one of my regular drinks whenever I'm in town, it's not easy to find in Australia. Barley is categorize as healthy food, it has vitamin B1, chromium, phosphorus, magnesium, niacin and it taste good.

There a lot of arguments regarding the quality of Boon Tong Kee Chicken rice since their rapid expansion. A good chicken rice determine by the chicken, rice, chilli, garlic sauce, fresh product and many other aspect. Boon Tong Kee still one of the best chicken rice but quiet pricey compare to the others. Must visit whenever you are in Singapore.
