District North is one of the new popular cafe at Moonee Ponds. One of my friend posted the picture of the pandan pancakes and I was intrigue. I love pandan. Pandan leaves is a very popular Asian ingredients used to colour and add extra sweetness to the dish. The leaves was process to extract the flavour and colour by pounding then strained. It has a unique sweet smell and have a similar sweetness to coconut or vanilla. I also have kaya jam in my refrigerator just because it reminded me of home. District North located quite far from my place so it take me quite some time to visit them.

The cafe it self was spacey, airy and well decorated. Perfect for functions or large group of people. It has a small outdoor area in front as well as a charming petit outdoor area at the back. They are also kid friendly, there are plenty of space for stroller and they provide also changing table on one of their restrooms.

I start with my regular coffee and it was served in the perfect temperature, the milk was fuffy and it has a sweet note at the end.

Their Chai latte served with a tiny flower floating on top, it was sweet and charming. The taste it self was pretty decent.

Pandan Pancakes - kaya mascarpone, mango, charred pineapple, sesame meringue ($16.5). This dish is their winning dish, the dish that intrigues Melbournians. The pandan pancakes it self have a subtle flavour of pandan, I just wish it's a little bit fluffier but the mango and pineapple add a nice kind of acidity. Sesame meringue pieces add crunchy texture to the dish but I also want more of the kaya mascarpone.

Green Chilli Chorizo Croquetas - jalapeno mayo, smoked tomato, corn, onion, herb, smoked labne, poached egg ($18.5). It was a well balanced dish, everything seems to work together. The croquetas was crispy on the outside but a lil bit dry on the inside. The portions it self was decent but if you are a big eater than this is not the dish for you.

The owner, Andrew come to our table and have a bit of chat with us. He is a very nice and friendly Italian guy, clearly he has a passion in making people happy. He went to get his phone to follow me on Insta but apparently they already had. It was a great Saturday brunch and would love to come back for more.
