Ichi Ichi Ku is located in a quite street in front of Botanical gardens just a few tram stops from Melbourne CBD. The restaurants is small, a bit cramp but charming. It's decorated with wood, unique colourful lanterns, dim lighting, Japanese art, open bar, open kitchen resembling modern and hip version of Japanese Izakaya restaurants. I fall in love straight away with the vibe of the restaurant.
Japanese food is one of my favourite cuisines because of the simplicity, fresh and light taste. Japanese people also known as their friendliness as well as their perfectionism.

Specials of the day: Aburi Hotate - seared scallops with Yaki Nori sauce, seasonal micro herbs, finger lime and kuro salt ($18). It was presented really well, the taste was soft, light and fresh.

Specials of the day: Salmon Tartare - served with deep fried wonton chips, side of ikura & shichimi ($12). It was a unique dish and it works really well.

Cheesy Ebi Roll (8pcs) - inside out tempura prawn roll topped with flamed cheese and avocado finished with teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo and tobiko ($20). Delicious sushi roll, I can't stop eating this.

One of the most popular dish at Ichi Ichi Ku is the Famous Ichi Ni Roll (8pcs) - inside out roll with lobster, avocado, cucumber and rice topped with flamed salmon and Japanese mayo ($25).

Their ice matcha latte has a subtle flavour of green tea, sweet but too thin for my taste. My partnered tried their hot matcha latte and it is certainly better than mine.

Ichi Licks is one of the famous dessert at Ichi ichi Ku. They have several different flavours such as - Matcha, vanilla, milk chocolate caramel and sometimes they also make special flavour according to the seasons. I decided to try their rosewater Turkish delight and pistachio ($10). It was sticky, sweet, soft, dense and certainly enjoyable.

I decided to take home so of their goodies. Matcha Tiramisu ($8.5) and Black Sesame Cheesecake ($8.5), both are pretty soft and have a strong flavour.

Ichi Ichi Ku served unique Japanese breakfast everyday from 7am-12pm, they also have a coffee window for quick take away coffee. They also have a delivery service for places around their restaurant or pick up services and catering for corporate or special events. Their service was as friendly, attentive even though sometimes on peak hours, the food preparations can take longer than expected

Come early to avoid the crowd cause the restaurant is often crowded and operates on first come first come basis. Ichi Ichi Ku is a perfect place to escape from the city busyness without having to travel too far away from the city.
