Forbidden Food at Night (Invited)

Forbidden Food at Night is a brand new chicken and waffle restaurants, just launch last Wednesday. It's located on the same restaurant as Eden's Backyard and managed by the same group of people. The concept of brunch on day time and a restaurant at night are getting trendier and popular by the day and people behind Eden's Backyard decided to join the trend.

I ordered popcorn chicken waffle cone ($6) as a starter. It was wrapped with a rustic news paper and literally served on a waffle cone. Their popcorn chicken was quite tasty but this was my least favourite out of all but it does not mean it was distasteful, it's just the other food was even more delicious.

Chicken Mixed Platter - 3 thigh, 4 schnitzel, 6 wings with jack daniel sauce and maple syrup ($32). It comes in a generous size fits for 2-3 pp if order with a side dishes.

Thigh and wings share the same battered and it was crispy and flavourful. The thigh was a bit greasier than the others but the meat it self has flavours even without the sauce. The wings was my favourite, it was crunchy on the outside but tender and flavourful on the inside. Schnitzel share the same battered as the pop corn chicken, it was clean and tasty on the inside. My partner like this the most out of all. Regarding the sauce it self, their jack daniel sauce is stronger than most jack daniel sauce around and I like it. Their maple syrup best to be pour on the waffle instead of the chicken, to give a sweet and salty sensation to your meal.

I also ordered cheese waffle ($4.5) as a side. I love the waffle so much, the texture was a bit crunchy on the outside but soft, moist with a little bit of sweet and saltiness inside. The cheese just amped it up even more. One of the best savoury waffle I have eaten in Melbourne.

The owner of Eden's Backyard knows that I have been hunting for their wonut (waffle donut) since I'm back from my holiday but somehow I always missed them. They were kindly enough to specially made it for me that night even though it wasn't on the menu. The wonut is only available on weekends at Eden's Backyard, make sure you try them.

There are currently 5 flavours of Wonut ($4.5) and I have been interested with the bacon flavour for a long time. It came out nicely, the waffle was crunchy but still soft and moist inside with sugar glaze contrasting with the saltiness of bacon. It reminded of Krispy Kreme glaze donut.

Pandan 'Kaya' Wonut ($4.5) was something that Kev's, one of the owner recommended because the pandan 'kaya' is made by him and his wife. It was beyond delicious, I told him to start selling the pandan spread cause I definitely will buy it regularly.

As my previous visit to Edens Backyard, this was also a great night with good food. I will certainly be back for their pandan wonut, cheese waffle and more of their chicken wings!
