Caffè Milano

Caffe Milano is one of my go to place for Italian food in Jakarta. It's located inside Central department store and it looks small but when you actually went in, it was pretty big.

They have indoor and outdoor spaces both are decorated really well. It has some French flare that makes you feel transported to a cafe in Paris.

Their Complimentary bread is one my mom's favourite bread. Disclaimer my mom loves bread, she can't go to long without eating bread.

Let's start with the pasta. Spaghetti vongole with white wine sauce (IDR 120k) was awesome, the pasta was well cooked, the clams has no fishy smell and very tasty.

Homemade Angel hair with black truffles in light butter sauce (IDR 175k). They served generous truffle, the sauces was very rich and very tasty.

Tomato and Arugula salad with hazelnuts, parmigiano and balsamico dressing (IDR 85k), it was refreshing and well mixed.

The sauce and the garnish partnered perfectly with the fish. Grilled salmon steak with agrodolce caramelised onion and tomato salsa (IDR 150k), the fish cooked perfectly, still a little bit raw inside, delicious onion and refreshing salsa.

Pizza Milano - porchini mushrooms, pancetta, egg, parmigiano reggiano (IDR 115k) was thin and crispy but well made.

The best thing was the desserts. Classic Italian Tiramisu (IDR 80k) served in the bowl just like most restaurant in North Italy. I have to say this is one of the best tiramisu in Jakarta. Closely made with the one in Italy. Smooth, creamy, punching alcohol flavours.

Vanilla panna cotta with strawberry and citrus salad (IDR 65k) also taste great with the classic combination of sweet and sour.

The coffee was just okay nothing special not bad too up to Indonesian coffee standard, they have one unique iced coffee called Milano iced latte (IDR 75k) where they served cold milk with coffee ice cube.

On my previous visits, I also ordered Spaghetti aglio olio with pepperoncino (IDR 90k), the pasta it self was good but lack of flavouring. Aglio olio usually have punching flavours of chilli and garlic but this dish does not have it. The pepperoncino has a fishy smell that makes everything unappetizing. Sea bass all cartoccio - oven baked in parchment with sautéed clams, tomatoes, basil and capers (IDR 150k), served wrap with aluminium foil and the fish was soft.

Reservations is recommended because this place is really busy even on the weekdays. Their service was a bit slow and the waiters needed to be more attentive since it was busy, efficiency is clearly important. Overall, I'll definitely come back for the tiramisu.
