Okonomiyaki is one of the famous street food in Osaka. Okonomiyaki is a savoury Japanese pancake made with batter and containing various ingredients but mostly cabbage and an assortment of meats, topped with tangy okonomiyaki sauce (sweet and spicy rich Worcestershire sauce), seaweed flakes, bonito flakes and mayonnaise. At dotonbori area there are numerous okonomiyaki restaurant and take away shop.

Botejyu founded in 1946 and in the website they stated the original recipe for adding mayonnaise and Japanese mustard to the sauce flavour okonomiyaki was created by them. Since then, they have over 79 restaurant around the world such as in Korea, Taiwan and Singapore. I went in to Botejyu main restaurant at Dotonbori area.

I decided to order the Local Speciality of Osaka - Osaka Modern Yaki (980yen) with Hokkaido pork (Japanese omelet modanyaki pancake features Tokushima's "Wa no Kiwami" eggs on top of Botejyu house made noodles). It was beautifully done, crunchy on the outside but smooth on the inside, the noodles was delicious. The sauces mixed perfectly and very tasty.

Teppanyaki means "grilling on a metal plate" is also one of the popular food in Osaka. Botejyu is also specialise teppanyaki restaurant and they recommended  the Teppan Sukiyaki (1380yen) with traditional "Osaka Shirona" vegetables, Japanese black wagyu and Momotaro tomatoes cooked with Warishita sauces. The meat was beautiful, melt in your mouth. The sauces was earthy, sweet, rich sauces and the vegetables just lighten everything up.

The dinner ends with a good hot cup of green tea. It was a good dinner indeed, love everything about the food and I could have more of them. All the food was prepared by the chef and we are able to see them work their magic at their teppanyaki stations. All the tables have their own individual grilling plate and the waiter will bring the dishes to your table and put them on your grilling plate to finish the cooking process, as well as keeping it warm.

Overall, I love the experience I had at Botejyu. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant it self was cozy but a little small, it would be hard for a large group.

Temptations Girly Fun Fact:
I found this at Botejyu website - Okonomiyaki diet.
There have been reports of cases where people have successfully lost over 20kg by eating okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is made of cabbage which are high insoluble dietary fiber, provided fullness due to it's long digestion time but also prevents adsorption of fat. Dietary fiber also found in other okonomiyaki ingredients such as yam and flour.

Flour is carbs and yes it is easily converted into fat cause it is a glucide but compared to bread or pie dough which uses butter, okonomiyaki batter is substantially lower in calories. All the other ingredients such as seafood sauce, bonito flakes, seaweed, aonori (green laver) work to prevent accumulation of neutral fat in the body which is the primarily cause of obesity.

In addition to all that, the sauced used to flavour the okonomiyaki is made from vegetable extracts and rice vinegar which increase metabolism and blood circulation, making it easier for the body to burn off fat.

In conclusions, I have not done any experimentations my self but it's good to know that okonomiyaki is not as fatty as it look. If this okonomiyaki diet are effective, it would be a very enjoyable diet for me. πŸ˜„
