Bawa Cafe

Bawa Cafe is named after Geoffrey Bawa, a Sri Lankan influential architect. This cafe open around 2 months a go by the geniuses behind some of the Melbourne's most popular cafes such as Barry, Pillar of Salt, Three Bags Full and Dukes. They all teamed up together to create another charming cafe with a natural decor, full of light and air which I love so much. In the last view years, Hawthorn area have grown to an area with some amazing cafe and Bawa just fit right in.

Around a month after Bawa Cafe open, one my best friend birthday comes up and I decided we should visit Bawa Cafe for her birthday brunch. We went in on a Saturday, 11am and have to wait approximately 10 mins.

We order coffee straight away since their coffee is from Dukes, there is no doubt it's good. The aroma and taste was light.

Chia pudding, coconut, passionfruit, rosewater, mango, berries, pistachio ($16). The pudding was fun, foamy, bright, colourful and beautiful. I love the flavour, it was the perfect amount of sweet and sour and they served generous amount of fruits.

Potato roesti, slow braised pork, poached eggs, herb hollandaise ($18). This is one of my favourite potato roesti in Melbourne, the crispy tasty potato roesti with super generous herb hollandaise.

Chilli scrambled eggs, pickled mushrooms, kaiserfleisch, reggiano toast ($17.5). The scrambled eggs was well made, soft but fluffy.

Free ranged panko chicken schnitzel, celeriac slaw, pickled apples ($18). The chicken was completely over shadowed by the two dishes, it tasted average and a bit soggy.

Overall, Bawa has become one of current favourite place and I heard from some of my fellow bloggers that their pressed lamb shoulder and strawberry ricotta fritters are great. I'll be back to try them, if I can resist not to order their potato roesti and chia pudding.
